Dr. Jill Locke, Ph.D.
Associate Professor, Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences
Co-Director, School Mental Health, Assessment, Research, and Training (SMART) Center

“Leveraging Implementation Science to Increase Access to Evidence-Based Interventions in Community Settings”

Dr. Locke is an Associate Professor in the University of Washington (UW) Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Co-Director of the UW School Mental Health, Assessment, Research, and Training (SMART) Center, a licensed child psychologist, and research faculty at the Seattle Children’s Autism Center. Jill has published widely on the: 1) presentation of social impairment for autistic youth in school settings; 2) identification of best practices for autistic youth; and 3) understanding of successful implementation and sustainment of evidence-based practices (EBPs) for autistic youth in public school settings. Her experiences have highlighted the importance of collaborating with public schools and the reality of working within the constraints of publicly funded systems, their timeline (e.g., school calendar year), and with their personnel.

“Cross-Species Domain Task Specificity: Revelations from where Pre- Meets Clinical”
​
Professor Young received his Double Major in Biology and Psychology, completing his PhD in the Department of Neuroscience at the University of Edinburgh.  After joining the Department, Jared is now a Professor, having received numerous awards during his tenure, including the Junior Psychopharmacologist of the year from the British Association of Psychopharmacology, the Rising Star Award from the Schizophrenia International Research Society, and most recently the AE Bennett award from the Society of Biological Psychiatry.  He was also awarded Fellow status at the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology and International Behavioral Neuroscience Society, the latter for which he was President 2019-2022.  Jared’s service has included being part of the Department of Psychiatry Diversity Committee since 2012, resulting in his receiving R13 funding to promote diversity and inclusivity within IBNS.  He also sits on the Scientific Council for the Behavioral Brain Research Foundation (formerly NARSAD), and currently on PMDA study section.  His research has resulted in >150 published articles, an h-index of 48, and importantly, 5 R01s, several R21s, and a center grant from both NIMH and NIDA.  His research focuses on translational behavioral research from rodents to humans and back in order to identify novel treatments for psychiatric conditions such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and HIV.
